National General Certificate (NGC) is a globally recognised health and safety qualification. The course covers the main legal requirements for safety in the UK, a range of workplace hazards, and methods of control.

The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK, identification and control of workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge

Learning Outcomes:

•    Understand the key legal elements of a health and safety policy
•    Advise on methods of controlling workplace hazards and risks
•    Apply safe systems of work, reporting and effective communication
•    Identify ill health and safety risks and management solutions
•    Explain and deploy the process of reporting and investigating accidents in the workplace

The qualification is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately:

•    Management of Health and Safety (NGC1)
•    Controlling workplace hazards (GC2)
•    Health and safety practical application (GC3)

NGC1 & GC2 are each assessed with a two 2-hour written paper. The practical assessment (GC3) consists of carrying out a risk assessment of a workplace and preparing a short report.

Our course consists of 10 days of classroom tuition (over 2 separate weeks) plus 2 days of classroom revision leading up to the examination day. The examinations are also held at our centre.

The Certificate syllabus is based on the Employment National Training Organisation (ENTO) standards. These are reviewed regularly to keep up to date with developments in the workplace and in legislation. The Certificate is accepted by IOSH in meeting the requirements for Technician Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH). It is also accepted by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) for associate membership. An essential first qualification for those intending to pursue a career in Health and safety!
